The Blue Bot project involved 230 five-year-old pupils of kindergarten in the Nord-Pas de Calais Region (France). The goal was to introduce them to coding, decoding and programming design. A ludopedagogy session was proposed with three main modalities: Body, Robot and Tablet. The statistical results confirmed the reliability of the scientific experiment and highlighted that the two modality combining Robot and Tablet recorded the highest performance scores in a pre- and posttest type evaluation

Abstract Rehabilitation can be defined as a process devised in response to unplanned life changes imposed by diseases or traumatic accidents. Cognitive rehabilitation is a form of therapy, focused on restoring functions that remain partially intact, applied to people with some form of cognitive impairment such as memory loss. The problem of traditional approaches is the lack of motivation and lack of interest of patients to perform repetitive tasks. This is where the concept of serious game

Background: Several studies have highlighted the implications of impulsivity and novelty seeking for both the maintenance and the process of recovery from bulimia nervosa (BN). Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the treatment of choice for BN, but for some cases, this treatment alone might not be sufficient for reducing the high levels of impulsivity. The paper presents a case report of a patient with BN, examining the effectiveness of using a videogame (VG; Playmancer) as an additional

Again, I participated in the Ludum Dare 31 competition, where you have to create a game all by yourself in 48h on a given theme. This time, it was "Entire Game on One Screen." The game is called "Attack of the Screen Scrollers". It's a top-down shooter, where you'll have to protect the background image of your single game screen against the deadliest enemy of pixels: scrolling! "Screen Scrollers" will invade the screen border, and force the image to scroll towa

Beware of the Screen Scrollers! They will scroll your "one screen game" background image away, and destroy those precious pixels forever. Also, this image is your only ground, so you'd better protect it if you don't want to be "scrolled away" too!Use the arrow keys (or WASD) to move, and click on the "Screen Scrollers" to shoot them with your laser. You'll earn points for each kill, so aim for the high score! (my personal record is 1292 points) IMPORT

Eric Chahi, a famous video games designer (Out of this World, anyone?), recently took part in the Retro Game Jam, a 32h video game creation competition held during november 2013 in Montpellier (France). In the video below, he discusses his feelings about this experience and presents the various prototypes of his game in order to explain his personal game creation process. A rare and very interesting testimony from a living videogame legend about the recent "Game Jam" phenomena (video i

It also christmas here at Ludoscience, and to celebrate this holiday we are happy to release a new videogame! The game is called "The One Fork Restaurant". It's a tiny game created in 48h for the Ludum Dare 28 competition, on the theme "You Only Get One." The game takes place in a restaurant where many customers are coming to eat, but unfortunately the restaurant has only one fork! So the customers have to share this fork in order to eat their meals, but they aren't rea

Our game Moreia just got featured on IndieGames! For his article, the journalist got in touch with the author of game Moreia is paying tribute to: MS Boa, created in 1989 by Dean Ballard for Microsoft. This game was originally created to promote a new mouse model released by Microsoft. Therefore, although being a freeware, MS Boa was solely distributed through the driver disks of this mouse! Here is a picture of this little know game: By the way, as we speak about Moreia, the act

Abstract: The impact games are known to have on commitment is pushing more and more companies to use training programmes that incorporate games, including Learning Role-Play Games. This article presents the methodology (ScenLRPG) and formalism we have defined to support instructional designers in the design of such programmes. The ScenLRPG methodology is based on two main principles: the first one is to make designers integrate the use of game principles into their reflection; the second one is

Games, MMOG-s (Massively Multiplayer On-Line Games), on-line social sites etc have become a major cultural and economic force. The main distinguishing features and attraction of these applications is their interactivity and emergent quality – participants constantly change the state of affairs with their actions. Gameplay, the resulting dynamic flow of events, is fascinating: this is like execution of an algorithm, where elementary actions are defined by game rules, but the logic, the flow
