Julian Alvarez will present the results of a study conducted at Orange Labs between June 2008 and September 2009, with a view to evaluating and analyzing the impact of serious game-type electronic communications on the general public (message perception, emotional reactions...). As the notion of impact cannot be reduced to these simple perimeters, these are the approaches that seem most accessible for starting this research work. Studying the impact of a serious game on individuals, or assessing the influence of a medium or videogame object on a human being, is no easy task, as ethnomethodology specialist Professor Pierre Molinier attests: “There are in fact a number of factors: context, mood, stakes, stock of skills, culture, language... which intermingle and nullify the possibility of drawing generalizations from a reception study. Thus, it is appropriate from the outset to consider that the data collected within the framework of the presentation of this study will be, at best, indicators of this ambition.”
